About SchoolConnect

SchoolConnect matches elementary school students with a mentor from area high schools and colleges. Mentees and Mentors meet once a week for 30-45 minutes during the school year. Matches are encouraged to be creative together and do activities that they both enjoy. MentoringWorks provides board games and craft supplies for matches at each elementary school.

What area does MentoringWorks cover?

The SchoolConnect Program supports matches at Adams Central, Blue Hill Community Schools, Harvard Public Schools, Hastings Catholic Schools, Hastings Public Schools and Zion Lutheran School. Mentors come from the mentioned high schools as well as Hastings College and Central Community College.

Who is eligible to be a mentee?

Mentees in grades K-5 are eligible for the SchoolConnect Program and are most often referred by a school counselor or personnel.

Who is eligible to become a mentor?

Mentors are eligible if they are a high school Junior or Senior or a Freshman-Senior in college. High school mentors can begin the application process in the spring of their sophomore year of high school.

Why should my child have a mentor?

Children with Mentors can experience increased self-confidence, increased self-esteem, are less likely to skip school than their peers without mentors. Additionally, children with mentors feel more confident academically.

Why should I be a mentor?

Mentors experience the same benefits as mentees: increased confidence, academic achievement self-development. Not only do you get to make a difference in the life of another, your own life can be impacted as you have an experience of being valued and skilled.
